Activites
We will use this page to share activities and fun ideas. Sometimes the simple things make the largest difference in the life of a child. Please feel free to add your own.
Bath time can be used to teach math and liquid measurement. Place measuring cups and plastic pitchers in the tub so that bath water can be transferred from one to the other. If the adult will ask questions such as "How many of these cups will fill up this pitcher?" This provides a foundation for solid understanding.
Did you know that IQ and most intelligence test are based on a vocabulary. If the child has a good handle on vocabulary, they will score higher on IQ test in the formal school setting. Place word cards around the house labeling things. Ask your child to read the words. Take the word cards down, shuffle them and ask your child to read them. This can be followed up with your writing down dictation of sentences with the words. Quickly... you are helping your preschooler develop vocabulary and a love for words... Have fun and make it a game. Young children love "showing off what they learn".
I was in the grocery store the other day and ran across " frozen ice cream drip protectors". These disposable paper items slip on the stick of the frozen treat to protect the child's' hands from getting sticky and the drippings from the ice cream or frozen treat from getting on your clothes. Well.... I have a money saving alternative to this new and improved item. When my girls were little, I used to carry coffee filters with me in the diaper bag and then the car basket at all times. Coffee filters make great disposable shields that you can push the stick through and it collects the melting dessert as well. $$$ saver at the same time.
